If you have been contacted about the NYCHVS and you would like to make an appointment, call the NYCHVS hotline at the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan.

They will schedule an appointment for a date, time, and place that is convenient for you.

If you prefer, you can request to complete the interview over the phone.

The questionnaire collects important information, including:

• Unit, building, and neighborhood conditions
• Housing and utility costs
• Information about the people who live in the sampled address

The survey is

• Confidential
• Can be completed anonymously, if you choose
• Used only for research purposes
• Available in the language of your choice

For 2026, HPD has partnered with the Survey Research Center (SRC) at the University of Michigan to conduct the survey.

The NYCHVS selects specific addresses randomly throughout New York City to be part of the survey.
