Memorial Day

Monday, May 31st is Memorial Day.

All government offices are closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Social Security offices
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Grab and go school meals will not be available. However, grab and go community meals will be available at select locations.

GetFoodNYC emergency home food deliveries will continue as scheduled.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

You do not have to pay the parking meter.

No stopping, no standing, and no parking regulations are suspended, except where those regulations are in effect anytime or seven days a week.

All NYC public schools and the P311 (Parent Support Hotline) are closed on Monday, May 31st.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

There is no trash or recycling collection on Monday, May 31st.

  • If Monday is your regular trash collection day, place your items curbside after 4 PM on Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, June 1st.  In some areas, your items may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Monday is your recycling collection day, place your items curbside on Sunday, June 6th after 4 PM for collection beginning Monday, June 7th.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.
